Young Living October 2016 Promotion

One of the reasons I love Young Living as a company is because of the generous gifts they give to members. Take October for instance, there are so many awesome promotions this month, that I am almost overwhelmed in figuring out how to write about it.

First of all, they have included a new tier of promotion for spending 100PV ( basically equals to the $) which is brand new. Secondly, I love that you get the Thieves household cleaner (a must in every household if you want to go toxin free) and Thieves Fruit and Vege Spray and Dryer balls + more

OctPromotionTier

I wanted to describe what each of these products can do.

Lavender Vitality: I love adding Lavender Vitality to my Lemonade or Fruit smoothie. It is a great way to support all body systems. One of my favorite uses is to add to a capsule for seasonal discomfort.

Palo Santo: It is a plant from South America that has been used by the Incas to cleanse and purify negative energies. It is great for spiritual development and calming the nerves. Another wonderful use that I discovered is to add it to my camping spray to have a pest free outdoor experience.

Clove Vitality: Clove is wonderful for supporting the immune system and overall wellness. It is fabulous to support oral health and adding a drop to honey can soothe your throat.

Thieves Fruit and Vegetable Spray: These days, even organic produce has residue in them. Spraying your fruits and vegetables especially when on the go can have you eating them in no time after a quick rinse. It is super effective as it has the combination of Thieves Oils + Lime Oil.

Wool Dryer Balls: Now, why can’t we just use the dryer sheets instead. The popular dyer sheets have endocrine disruptors. Read this article by Huffington Post on common household items that contain estrogen mimicking chemicals that disrupt hormones. Use wool dryer balls – add a drop of Lavender or Purification EO to it and see your clothes comes out super clean :)

Thieves Household Cleaner: You can get the squeaky clean without dangerous chemicals or synthetic ingredients. We have replaced this for all the cleaning supplies we have at home. It is super concentrated so it lasts a long time. I love non toxic cleaning supplies for the same reasons as why I WILL NOT use dyer sheets. With the skin being the largest organ which will absorb everything that it comes in contact with, I am very particular about what I use at home including cleaning supplies.

Having a small child at home, I never have to worry about whether he will get into my cleaning cabinet because even if he does, it is super safe.

For current members of YL, we have another great opportunity to get Free Gifts. If you have never been on Essential Rewards (which is the monthly autoship program allowing you to get points for all the essentials that you might normally buy – you can cash that for most products) you can get Thieves, Lemon and Digize for placing an ER order for just 100PV.

ERPromo

Thieves EO: Can’t live without Thieves in our home. We use this every day for boosting our immune system.

Lemon EO: It is super cleansing and is one of the most versatile oils I have known other than Lavender.

Digize EO: It is a blend that is helpful in regulating your  digestive system and for overall wellbeing.

Do Essential Oils Get Resistant Like Antibiotics?

Recently, this question has come up many times probably because there is so much sickies going around already  :-(  Winter has not even begun  :-(

As usual, I started digging around to find the answer with research evidence even though intuitively, I know that the answer is that Essential Oils don’t behave like drugs. First of all, why is this topic of resistance important..

meds“The loss of antibiotics due to antimicrobial resistance is potentially one of the most important challenges the medical and animal-health communities will face in the 21st century,” says Dr. Cyril Gay, the senior national program leader at the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Research Service. Newer and newer strains of resistant bacteria develop that cause more sickness.

This one talks about the fact that 80% of antibiotic usage is for animal husbandry. Basically, the increased use of antibiotics with live stocks to help with the unsanitary conditions has created resistance to it not only for the animals but also for the farmers and in some cases, to treating diseases that they have not even encountered. In this study, they show that using various essential oils like Organo, Rosemary, Thyme helped in treating the disease and even limit the spread of salmonella.

TeaTreeFarm
They found evidence that Staph infections healed faster with Tea Tree Oil than treated with conventional methods. Another study points to the reduction of spread of MRSA ( a highly prevalent infection in the healthcare setting) simply by using Lemongrass EO in a hand gel. They also saw that tea-tree oil clears MRSA from the skin as effectively as the standard treatments to which bacteria appear to be developing resistance.

This is really important especially these days when FDA has shown that antibacterial soaps can be harmful. I wrote a blog post related to this recently.

Web-New-Kit-OilsSo, why do Essential Oils not develop resistance…

  • No two batches of EO’s can be the same because each harvest is different (depends on the soil conditions, rain, sunlight etc) each plant has a different DNA like humans. Due to these factors, it is not possible to develop resistance to bacteria.
  • Each drop of EO contains thousands of molecular constituents that work with each body differently. Hence, they do exactly what the body needs whether to preserve good flora or clear an infection.
  • Dr. Nicole M. Parrish, associate professor of pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine says “phytonutrients” are chemical compounds derived from plants that have a range of health benefits, “including promoting tumor killing and increased resistance to infectious diseases, and they have been used as health-promoting agents by many cultures for several millennia.”Plants produce essential oils to help protect themselves from infections, heal damage, repel pests or attract insects that serve them. Hence their healing properties isn’t really surprising.

Here is another study that talks about this written by NCBI

Immune System Help

This past week, our family got hit hard. First my son was under the weather and then my husband and finally me. Usually, my husband and I generally escape the petri dish that our toddler is, but not this time. Plus, being pregnant also makes it hard to be sick ( Yes, a new Ali will be joining us at the end of Jan – another blog post of how I am supporting my system using YL oils and supplements.

BombOK, back to immune system. Here is what we did to support our family…..For my husband and I, we started taking Inner Defense right away. Hubby took one every few hours. I only took two for the entire day as it contains Oregano, so I did not want to over do it.

I made an Immune Boosting bomb for myself and I only put Thieves, Frankincense and Copaiba in it ( left out the Oregano). I added Copaiba for supporting over all wellbeing and helping my system recover faster.

We also applied R.C on our chest, Thieves on the foot, Frankincense on the spine. We also diffused Purification, Lemon, Thieves EO in the shared common area, not all at once, but one at a time. At night, I diffused Thieves, Purification, Oregano, Citrus Fresh, Lemon EO – similarly, not all at once, but one at a time depending on what catches my attention.

Water2Another thing, my husband discovered  😀 is this process of ‘Steaming With EO’. Being Indian, we were used to the process of steaming when sick ( heating water up, adding herbs to it and inhaling the vapors from it by covering your head with a towel to keep the vapors in).

AsadTowelHe suggested trying it with EO’s. He added Peppermint EO or R.C or Oregano to the steaming water. It very much supported his respiratory system. I tried it as well. Peppermint EO was quite intense, but it really supported the respiratory system and cleared my nasal passage. Do write if you try this method and let me know what your experience is.

We also upped the dose of NingXia Red, Vit D, Omega Oils, Elderberry Syrup and Probiotics to help our bodies recover faster.

Anish&CapsulesFor the kiddo, pretty much the same protocol. Left out ingesting oils other than adding Lemon and Orange EO to his water. Needless to say, he is feeling much better in no time. I am amazed at the body’s ability to heal when the right environment is provided.

This is what he does with empty vegetarian capsules – fills them up with tiny beads  :-)

Chemical Exposure

Have you heard of EWG. It is a wonderful way to get reviews on the toxicity levels in the products that you use.
I saw this article recently on the reasons for childhood cancer  :-(
BabyThis is why I am so so so diligent on the products I bring into my home – from skin care, to supplements, to toothpaste,  to washing machine soap, basically anything that we use on a daily basis.
The summary of this article is that childhood cancers is related to exposure to chemicals such as pesticides, benzene and arsenic. EWG has found that not only are these substances widespread in a child’s living environment, they can also be passed on from mother to child during pregnancy and through breastfeeding (Despite this, the health benefits of breastfeeding greatly exceed the risk of chemical exposure.) These prenatal and early life exposures occur during the most vulnerable period of a child’s development.
This is one of the main reasons I like Young Living products – because they are so clean and chemical free. This is what drew me to YL when I was pregnant with my first child in 2013. I can sleep at night knowing that I have done everything I can to provide a chemical free home for my family.

Essential Oils Home Party

Recently, I helped my friend Amanda host an Essential Oils home party at her home. I actually have a lot of fun introducing friends to EO’s in their home. It is very relaxed and everyone is just having  a good time. I made some home made vegan chocolate with Bergamot EO to take the party and also took a bottle of NingXia Red to share with everyone. Who doesn’t enjoy a nice cool sip of NingXia on a hot day?

Here is a picture of my sweet pea licking the chocolate off the blender at my home as I was preparing it. Yes, I make the chocolate in a blender and stick it in the fridge. It is as simple as that. Recipe to follow in another blog.

I taught Amanda and a few of her fellow mom friends how to make lavender spray, discussed oils for immune boosting, and DIY home cleaning products. We enjoyed some lovely foods infused with EOs such as lemon bread, hummus, home made chocolate and seltzer water.

It was a lovely time for everyone including our kids who enjoyed making their own relaxing spray bottles.

For some reason, I had the rapt attention of these little ones  😉 I have seen over and over again that little people love oils. It is very empowering when my kiddo asks for Lavender EO when he falls down while playing. They have a homing instinct towards wellness in a way that we adults seem to have lost.

I actually like it when children are present. I think it is a gift to them to see the most influential people in their lives modeling self care techniques that lead towards health and wellbeing.

Here is a picture that Amanda took of Lavender spray bottles that the kiddos made. Aren’t the stickers just adorable?

If you are local, would you like to host a home party in your own home? Let me know and I’ll be happy to help you organize one. It’s fabulous fun for moms and kids alike, a great way to share the knowledge of EOs with other families.
