InsectRepellent-Anish

Natural Bug Repellent

Do you love the outdoors but hate the bugs. Not only are bugs annoying, but they can be potentially dangerous for our health like west nile virus, the infamous lyme….Are you concerned about the chemicals found in the popular insect repellents in the market, esp DEET. Don’t know whether they are good for you or not.

Here is the bottom line – Deet is there in those insect repellents because it works. But I personally will not use it as it has been linked to neurological effects like seizures, skin irritation, eye irritation, Esp exposing my kiddos to these things – a big no.

But you have to weigh your options – are you going back packing in the country and the chances of encountering bugs  that can be potentially dangerous for your health – keep this as a stand by.

Any chemicals – my tendency is to avoid it, but if you are in the deep woods, healthy lifestyle, toxic load is low – so ok to use if you need to.

BUT there are alternatives and using the alternative often is the best way to start, esp for children. I love my essential oils based insect repellent. I use YL oils and I use the insect repellent that is pre made.

This is how I do it, You are welcome to try just this one if you want.

Chemical Free Home

I recently came across this article in the NY times – it is an article about the fact that the leading brand of toothpaste Colgate still contains the FDA banned ingredient Triclosan. On the reasons that Triclosan was banned was because it causes the risk of scrambling hormones in children, normal development of the reproductive system and metabolism and also creating drug resisting bacteria.

I can’t stress the importance of having a chemical free household = toxin fre ThievesToothpaste e life. What ever we put in our body gets absorbed into the blood stream, but chemicals in items like toothpaste when in contact with the gums gets rapidly absorbed into the blood stream.

So, please read the ingredients listed in any of the common household items that you use every day from hand soaps, dishwashing soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash etc. Be informed consumers.

My obsession for a chemical free living comes from the fact that my husband at the young age of 28 was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and thankfully, with Divine grace has been in remission for almost 18 years at this time. In my early twenties, I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder and was bed ridden for over 5 years. All of these very trying times in our lives actually proved to be a blessing in disguise.

It made us change our lifestyle, look at what we put in and on our bodies, how we keep our environment, how we treat our mind and body. Since then I am on a mission to make sure that our home is ‘clean’ and if these kinds of posts make a difference even in one person, I will keep doing it.

I would highly recommend the Thieves line of household products including Thieves Toothpaste and the Kidscent toothpaste for kids and Thieves Hand Foaming Soap.

Chemical Free Life

You are probably tired of hearing me asking everyone to read labels and to make sure you have a chemical free home. But I can’t help write about this especially because studies have shown that new born babies have up to 200 chemicals found in their umbilical cord. It starts that early and I am prepared to do anything I can do to spread the word of easily changing your home from chemical to non chemical.

The skin is the largest organ and some of the products that are used daily like washing machine detergent, hand soap, shampoo, soap if non toxic can create a build up of toxins in your body leading to diseases and illnesses in the long run.

chemicalFreeHome

One of the main reasons I am so diligent about this is because my husband is a cancer survivor and I want to make sure that we live a chemical free home ( as much as possible as it is hard to avoid absorbing all the toxins that we are constantly exposed to)

The one problem I had often run into was that the non toxic products would not work well and I had to use a LOT of the product to get the clean. That ThievesCleaners was till I found all the non toxic products from Young Living  😆 And it works  well for such a small amount of usage. You have to experience it to believe it. Now, we have replaced all the household products including soaps , shampoos, household cleaners, hand soap etc with Young Living products so that we can live a toxin free life style.

You can make small changes in your home if you are overwhelmed about where to start. For instance, how many of you are aware of the chemicals present in dryer sheets. Yes, dryer sheets.  I would highly encourage you all to ditch the dryer sheets in the dryer. It generally contains chemicals found to be hormone disrupters. Have you used the organic wool balls with lavender eo in your dryer? If you prefer to not use wool, just add a few drops of your favorite oil directly to the wet clothes in the dryer. So, simple actions like these can help support your family from being inundated with toxins.

You can read more about how harmful some of the products are from here and here.

Environmental Working Group is a great organization where you can check the the safety of your products

Now, I can rest in peace knowing that I can control what comes into our home and how to help our family live a chemical free life.

Do share your ways of having a chemical free home #chemicalfreehome # toxinfree.

As a special offer to try out some of the chemical free products from Young Living, I am giving away samples of either the Household Cleaner or Lavender Shampoo to 3 people. The only criteria is to give feedback about the product within a month of using it.

Chemical Exposure

Have you heard of EWG. It is a wonderful way to get reviews on the toxicity levels in the products that you use.
I saw this article recently on the reasons for childhood cancer  :-(
Baby This is why I am so so so diligent on the products I bring into my home – from skin care, to supplements, to toothpaste,  to washing machine soap, basically anything that we use on a daily basis.
The summary of this article is that childhood cancers is related to exposure to chemicals such as pesticides, benzene and arsenic. EWG has found that not only are these substances widespread in a child’s living environment, they can also be passed on from mother to child during pregnancy and through breastfeeding (Despite this, the health benefits of breastfeeding greatly exceed the risk of chemical exposure.) These prenatal and early life exposures occur during the most vulnerable period of a child’s development.
This is one of the main reasons I like Young Living products – because they are so clean and chemical free. This is what drew me to YL when I was pregnant with my first child in 2013. I can sleep at night knowing that I have done everything I can to provide a chemical free home for my family.
Please research the products that you use in your home. In our home, we have changed all the products to make sure that they are chemical free.
