Immune System Boosters

So, Fall is here and Winter is fast approaching. In our household, that means time to make sure that our check list of Immune Boosters are checked off when the time comes to use them. So, here are some of the things that I keep handy at all times.

  1. Elderberry Syrup : It is known for its immune boosting properties. I like to make my own using this recipe but if you don’t have time or are not inclined to make it, you can buy it from Gaia Herbs.
  2. Fire Cider: I first heard of this from my midwife friend Kara Schamel. She offered it to me once and I loved it. So, I started making my own following this recipe. Though, I do modify it a little as I can’t tolerate jalapenos. Instead, I add lots of peppercorns. I made the current batch that I am using in the beginning of Spring this year. Now, I have it all wonderfully infused.
  3. Vit D: Most people are deficient in Vit D. For my family, I make sure that we get our dose of Vit D everyday especially in the winter months. I like Natural Health Vit D Drops. And I also like Biotics Research. (I don’t make any profit by linking it to Amazon, these are just brands that I have used and liked)
  4. Essential Oils: There are a number of EO that help with boosting the immune system but there are a few that are my go to. I make an Immune Boosting Roll on using Thieves EO, Purification EO and Lemon EO. I just add 10 drops of each with 20 drops of sweet almond oil in a glass roll on bottle. It is totally portable

The low impact of Axial Stability Method is a wonderful way to support the body’s natural ability to heal. I often visit my chiropractor when I am starting to come down with something and it nips it in the bud.

6. Vit C: Good quality Vit C can be highly beneficial in the winter months to boost immunity. I like the company Pure Synergy. Again, I don’t paid for sharing these products, I just want to have some leads for anyone reading this blog.

7. Rest and Water:  Rest and drinking water can help anyone recover. Never underestimate the power of rest. I often do some visualization of complete health and wellbeing and send gratitude to my body for functioning so efficiently. I feel that when someone falls sick, it is the body and mind’s way of saying slow down.

So, equip your home with these supportive items and be at peace during the winter months.

Back to School

So, school has either already started or is starting this coming week. Things get busy for everyone involved. There are a few things that I like to keep handy for our our family since my son is also starting a program this coming week. Yikes, when did he get big enough to go to toddler program….

Immune Booster Roll On:

Thieves : 10 Drops
Frankincense : 10 Drops
Lemon: 10 Drops
Lavender : 10 Drops
Oregano: 5 drops (optional)
Coconut Oil / Olive Oil / YL’s V-6 blend – 20 drops
Roller Bottle

Mix all the eo’s in a roller bottle, fill it up with a carrier oil and use it before your child goes to school, day care or to the play ground.  In the winter months, coconut oil with solidify, so it might not flow through the roller bottle. So, you can use the V-6 blend that YL has already made or Olive oil which will not solidify.

Thieves Hand Spray

Thieves EO – 10 Drops
A few pinches of salt
Distilled Water
Spray Bottle

Take a spray bottle, add a couple of pinches of salt, add 10 drops of Thieves, and some distilled water. Here is your own little bottle of sanitizing spray. I often use either this, the Thieves Spray or the Waterless Purifier  that YL has on my hand, my son’s hand after we are done with the play ground and he wants a snack. I use it on our hands when we use public transportation. It is a wonderful replacement to the chemical purifiers available in the market.

OK, now for some calming oils that I like to use…. I don’t know about you but having to leave the house at a given time with a toddler in tow can be stressful. So, I have this blend that I like to take with me. It is also safe for kids…

You can just use Stress Away which is a great blend on its own. I never leave the house without StressAway.

Good Night!!

Often people have asked me about my son sleeping 11 – 12 hours a night. Yes, touch wood, he does that pretty much every night unless sick. So, here is my little secret and of course it has to do with essential oils, right!!!

I diffuse any of the oils that effect relaxation – Valor, Lavender, or Cedarwood. Many people love and swear by Peace & Calm, but it has had the opposite effect on my little guy. It makes him more alert. If needed, I might apply a couple of drops of one of these on his big toes on his foot.

I have also made a lotion that I often use on my husband and I and sometimes on my little guy. Here is the recipe..

Sleepcream-New Version

3/4  cup of coconut oil (optional – whipped up for a creamy consistency)
8 Drops of Lavender
8 Drops of Cedarwood
8 Drops of Valor or Peace & Calm or both.

Aromatherapy Journey Continues

My friend Rebecca sent this quote to me..

The unknowable path

…might also be the right one.
The fact that your path is unknowable may be precisely  why  it’s the right path.
The alternative, which is following the well-lit path, offers little in the way of magic.
If you choose to make art, you are no longer following. You are making.

HT to JSB.

Isn’t that lovely. And that is how I often feel when I think about my life pursuing Aromatherapy. It feels quite unknown and yet there is magic in this amazing journey. I just finished an Aromatherapy Intensive Class where I learned more about these powerful plant extracts – from how to use them for emotional releases to a technique developed by Young LIving called “Raindrop technique”. I will soon write more about the Raindrop in another blog.

I also learned about the chemistry about essential oils, which was fascinating. This is coming from someone who could not wait to drop chemistry when I finished high school. I was captivated by how much knowledge of chemistry is needed to learn how to properly distill and when to exactly stop the distillation process. Learning about what exactly essential oils do when they enter our blood stream and how they work with our body’s natural intelligence to heal was absolutely mind blowing.  I promise to write another blog on the chemistry of essential oils soon as well.

Finally, it made me grateful for Young Living products as they put so much effort into making sure each batch is the best. A small variation can alter the final product so much that it can go from being helpful to harmful and even fatal. This is why I stress the importance of researching essential oils and making sure they are not adulterated and absolutely safe to use (apply to skin, breathe and safe to ingest).

If you want to learn more about the class or Aromatherapy, visit CARE. They are an independent organization that teaches Aromatherapy. Thanks for joining me in this Unknown Path….
