Back To School Series – Rise and Shine

I am doing a ‘Back to School’ series in the next up coming weeks.

The first one is about mornings. I don’t know about you, but waking up in the morning and getting a child / children ready for school can be a challenge. I only have one toddler to get out of the house and invariably we are fighting being late for his toddler program. Since he is in school only for a few hours, I need him to leave on time so I can maximize my working day when he is away.

Morning blues can be tough. Can oils really help with that? You probably know what I will say, right? YES….

Print Oils like Joy, Lemon and Peppermint can serve as a wake up in the mornings. I love diffusing Lemon or Peppermint when I am getting breakfast ready or getting the kiddo dressed. Adding Lemon EO to my water can also be refreshing and cleansing.

Combo of Lemon and Joy in the diffuser is uplifting and creates a positive attitude.

Try it….

Healthy Weight Management

Weight is not something I have ever struggled with……Well, until….I got pregnant. I was always so prideful of my genes. My paternal grandmother was less than 5 ft tall, bore 8 children and probably never weighed more than 90 lbs.  Well, that is what I was blessed with, well, until I got pregnant.

Pregnancy was actually fine. I gained only the right amount 35 lbs and interestingly enough, I gained 15 more pounds after giving birth  in-spite of nursing. All the stories about nursing makes you shed the weight did NOT apply to me. It was so disheartening. I had so much compassion for people who try hard but are unable to shed the weight. I was so depressed. I am not big into being skinny, but my energy was down and it was so hard carrying around all that extra weight.

I found essential oils that helped with healthy weight management (which I will write about below) but I was reluctant to use them as they have peppermint EO and sometimes peppermint EO can reduce milk supply. I was not ready to loose the milk supply that I had worked hard towards maintaining. So, you must be thinking – there must be something about Essential Oils that she will be writing about. Yes, there is, but not all what helped me finally loose all the pregnancy + weight.

What worked for me was a high protein diet low carb diet, exercise regularly even if just for 20 min, reducing stress ( this was BIG as I was so stressed about my son’s eating issues – another post for later) , NingXia Red (I started drinking NingXia Red everyday especially before a workout) and Lemon EO ( I started having lemon eo in my water everyday in the morning) This really helped and 2 years since his birth, I am finally back to my pre pregnancy weight.

In any case, here is a protocol that might help many of you….

Grapefruit EO ( Helps boost metabolism)
Lemon EO ( Breaks down fat cells)
Peppermint (Helps with hunger)
Add 3-4 drops of each in a capsule and have one everyday preferably in the morning.

My invitation to anyone struggling with weight – Don’t give up, be persistent ( heard of compound effect – it works) and don’t loose hope.

Immune System Boosters

So, Fall is here and Winter is fast approaching. In our household, that means time to make sure that our check list of Immune Boosters are checked off when the time comes to use them. So, here are some of the things that I keep handy at all times.

  1. Elderberry Syrup : It is known for its immune boosting properties. I like to make my own using this recipe but if you don’t have time or are not inclined to make it, you can buy it from Gaia Herbs.
  2. Fire Cider: I first heard of this from my midwife friend Kara Schamel. She offered it to me once and I loved it. So, I started making my own following this recipe. Though, I do modify it a little as I can’t tolerate jalapenos. Instead, I add lots of peppercorns. I made the current batch that I am using in the beginning of Spring this year. Now, I have it all wonderfully infused.
  3. Vit D: Most people are deficient in Vit D. For my family, I make sure that we get our dose of Vit D everyday especially in the winter months. I like Natural Health Vit D Drops. And I also like Biotics Research. (I don’t make any profit by linking it to Amazon, these are just brands that I have used and liked)
  4. Essential Oils: There are a number of EO that help with boosting the immune system but there are a few that are my go to. I make an Immune Boosting Roll on using Thieves EO, Purification EO and Lemon EO. I just add 10 drops of each with 20 drops of sweet almond oil in a glass roll on bottle. It is totally portable

Immune Booster Roll on 5. Chiropractic Work: People usually think of Chiropractic work only for muscular skeletal related issues. The low impact of Axial Stability Method is a wonderful way to support the body’s natural ability to heal. I often visit my chiropractor when I am starting to come down with something and it nips it in the bud.

6. Vit C: Good quality Vit C can be highly beneficial in the winter months to boost immunity. I like the company Pure Synergy. Again, I don’t paid for sharing these products, I just want to have some leads for anyone reading this blog.

7. Rest and Water:  Rest and drinking water can help anyone recover. Never underestimate the power of rest. I often do some visualization of complete health and wellbeing and send gratitude to my body for functioning so efficiently. I feel that when someone falls sick, it is the body and mind’s way of saying slow down.

So, equip your home with these supportive items and be at peace during the winter months.

Back to School

So, school has either already started or is starting this coming week. Things get busy for everyone involved. There are a few things that I like to keep handy for our our family since my son is also starting a program this coming week. Yikes, when did he get big enough to go to toddler program….

Immune Booster Roll On:

Thieves : 10 Drops
Frankincense : 10 Drops
Lemon: 10 Drops
Lavender : 10 Drops
Oregano: 5 drops (optional)
Coconut Oil / Olive Oil / YL’s V-6 blend – 20 drops
Roller Bottle

Mix all the eo’s in a roller bottle, fill it up with a carrier oil and use it before your child goes to school, day care or to the play ground.  In the winter months, coconut oil with solidify, so it might not flow through the roller bottle. So, you can use the V-6 blend that YL has already made or Olive oil which will not solidify.

Thieves Hand Spray

Thieves EO – 10 Drops
A few pinches of salt
Distilled Water
Spray Bottle

Take a spray bottle, add a couple of pinches of salt, add 10 drops of Thieves, and some distilled water. Here is your own little bottle of sanitizing spray. I often use either this, the Thieves Spray or the Waterless Purifier  that YL has on my hand, my son’s hand after we are done with the play ground and he wants a snack. I use it on our hands when we use public transportation. It is a wonderful replacement to the chemical purifiers available in the market.

OK, now for some calming oils that I like to use…. I don’t know about you but having to leave the house at a given time with a toddler in tow can be stressful. So, I have this blend that I like to take with me. It is also safe for kids…

You can just use Stress Away which is a great blend on its own. I never leave the house without StressAway.

Seasonal Discomfort

Spring is here in New England. I have been waiting for Spring since end of Jan as this winter was so brutal. This and Fall are my favorite times in New England. Spring = beautiful flowers, sweet sound and sight of birds and who can forget our friend the pollen. Here is a picture from our walk yesterday in our neighborhood.

When we lived in CA, I did not have any problem with seasonal stuff. But here, I seem to always have a problem the moment Spring starts. Last year, I discovered how Essential Oils can help. There is a saying that I recently came across “And there is an oil for that….” and yes there seems to be an oil for everything.

So, last year, I used oils for seasonal discomfort and it seemed to help quite a bit. I took 3 drops of Peppermint, Lemon and Lavender in a capsule. You can also add it to raw local honey to enhance its effect. In addition, I also applied Lavender to my temples, nose, throat and chest every time I would go out. You can do this as needed.
